With a little bit of work and some creativity this game could be one of the greats =P
Here's a few things I would do to enhance your game (Keep in mind that I wasn't able to get past level one):
Add an interactive menu.
Possibly add level codes.
The music is fine, but possibly add a sounds for a failed level.
Either slow the meteors down, or speed the smiley up.
Possibly make the meteors smaller and have them follow a geometric path.
The score compounds very wierdly. Change it and make it add up more smoothly.
Make your collision tests work better.
There was only one 'glitch' that I found. The score doesn't reset after a failed level. This might have been intentional.
wow... what a review...
1. the contextmenu thing didn't work!!! WTF? it worked in my other game, MojoPG!
2. no, i don't like cheats.
3. ok
4. i tried, believe me!
5. i tried, man
6. yes
7. i can't, because it relies on sprite borders, now...
Erm. This has great potential, but it needs a good bit of work.
here's what I would do to make this game more user friendly:
**Add an instructions page**
Add music and ambient noises.
Make the 'Replay?' button work correctly.
Have the text either scroll faster, or not at all.
Possibly have 'Gavin' say a few different things when he's stabbed.
Maybe have Gavin's mother scream upstairs every 15 seconds, or at some other interval.
Well. All-in-all, I'd have to say it has great potential, but there are a few things that need changing:
Add some sound in the background and possibly some ambient sound if you really feel cool ;)
You actual gameplay needs some adjusting. The gravity in your game is not life-like. Gravity causes an objects velocity to increase.
The enemy needs AI.
Try changing the one attack that uses a 'sword' and shuriken(sp?) into two different attacks caused by diffirent buttons. Also, maybe try adding in different attacks that possibly use chakra, etc.
I also noticed some slight flaws.
Your fighting is flawed. If you hold the spacebar down, the 'attack' sound continuously repeats.
On the ledges, you and Naruto don't seem to line up. (Might have been intentional?)
Very good game in my opinion, but it's lacking a bit of 'Shazam!'
Here's what I would add:
An interactive menu with a Play Game, Instructions, and Credits buttons.
A looping mp3 for the menu.
A small sound clip for a completed/failed level. (The game gets a bit monotonous after a while of no sounds except for the occasional 'Zap!'
Make the bonus level check and see if you've typed the statement in correctly so that the player doesn't have to sit and wait 10 seconds before starting the next level. Also, duting the bonus levels, don't allow the player to copy the phrase (Disable right click, or don't use a textbox). Also, make it so that more points are awarded the faster that you complete the bonus level.
The only mentionable error I found was that 'Letters Remaining:' changed when the oncoming letter turned green instead of when it disappeared. I don't know if that was intentional or not.
Hi NillerWafer, Thanks for this great review, all of your comments are very good, I will definitely use them on the next version, about the error, it was meant to change when letters turned green, because that is when you have the chance to destroy them. Once again, thanks for the review, and I hope that the next version will include something innovative that will make people like it.
